I do not want to conform to rules created by the people who rule us
To a society who has acted as if they are our creator
A society who tells us what to do…what to wear…how to act…how to speak…
These things should not be up to them
People should be able to love who they want to…wear what they want to wear…tattoo their skin
People think they have freedom, but how much do we really have
Who came up with these rules
Who declared a degree is the only way to survive in the world today…and that certain words are bad to say
It is sad to think that we really don’t have a choice
I am one of few who has a voice
So we continue on each day the same as the last
We continue on the same as our ancestors have in the past
We are doomed to continue this way with everyone conforming to the rules
Think about the words I say
How much better could we make our world if more people thought this way

Oh I adore this… I am so glad you wrote this. So many people need to read your words. You cast a beautiful rock into a beautiful pond…think on your ripples, beautiful!

I like this. Who did create all these rules? And why do we blindly follow?

So true, every word. I’ve got a couple of recent poems still to publish which echo your sentiments expressed here; one is about plastic surgery, and the other is on society’s obsession with fashion.

Lemme add to my response that the illusion can be for good or bad. Like when only full “freedoms” are available when you are of a particular group. That’s when things become weird because a particular group can’t even practice the full fledged illusion unless permitted to do so by the “in” members – think women suffrage, civil rights, lgbt rights. But I wanna bring the conversation back to the illusion. You should read an author by the name of Jean Baudrillard. It’s a little boring and at times mind numbing, but once you put the right lock in the key hole, the lid on your brain comes off.

I will check it out- I appreciate your thought friend. Your a smart one 😉

I think you are smart because you are what I like to call a thinking robot. You don’t seem to accept what has been extended just because it’s always been. You question and ask why (and reject them too). This is a great gift to have because without it you will be lead by any and everyone seeking to control your activity and behavior for their gain. 😄. Keep questioning!! Awesome job, friend!

On so many levels, we are not free. Most of us live with the illusion of freedom and we accept it as the genuine article. But what would complete freedom look like? Is the illusion a completely bad thing? Could we function as a civil society without constraints imposed on our freedoms? Our shared cultural mores and historical mythologies are all a part of the system that’s in place to order our daily activity.

That’s true – just want people to be accepted for who they are- and not told they need to be something they are not in order to get a good job. Or to be able to make a living helping others- we live in a corporation controlled world friend. It is not a good world to live in. We pay more and make less- they just keep making more

I agree. I am on that wavelength. I’ve been working on a short story on that very topic. It’s getting too long though. People won’t read it.

I’ll read it – I am very passionate about people’s rights – morals – sociology – culture – these things matter to me a lot. I want to be a therapist and I’m upset because I don’t think I can afford to be one. Because we live in a country that doesn’t pay therapists – they pay the people who try to fix you after your body is damaged, not before- there is not enough help out there for people who need it. More people need to realize this – and people should be able to be who they are – as long as they are not hurting Anyone else

I couldn’t agree more. I have a short story called “train tracks” that is about being on the outside and seeking to make others comfortable enough so you can live.

we are controlled by society, yet we, as collective, are the ones who create the society – every single one of us, even those who feel trapped by the boundaries we have placed upon ourselves… (just something I picked up when I studied philosophy…)

I was never good at philosophy- mythology I like though. You think I would be, but nope. Hmm ..maybe I should try it again that was a while ago.

I did a philosophy as an elective at university – you’ll be surprised it’s actually really interesting! Boring information you once thought meant nothing, is actually filled with delightful insights and hidden meanings ☺️

Well I have already taken all my electives – or I would try it again. I find mythology really interesting and there is a lot of meaning in the things written since when people began to write
