The rules

I do not want to conform to rules created by the people who rule us

To a society who has acted as if they are our creator

A society who tells us what to do…what to wear…how to act…how to speak…

These things should not be up to them

People should be able to love who they want to…wear what they want to wear…tattoo their skin

People think they have freedom, but how much do we really have

Who came up with these rules

Who declared a degree is the only way to survive in the world today…and that certain words are bad to say

It is sad to think that we really don’t have a choice

I am one of few who has a voice

So we continue on each day the same as the last

We continue on the same as our ancestors have in the past

We are doomed to continue this way with everyone conforming to the rules

Think about the words I say

How much better could we make our world if more people thought this way

  1. Oh I adore this… I am so glad you wrote this. So many people need to read your words. You cast a beautiful rock into a beautiful pond…think on your ripples, beautiful!

  2. Lemme add to my response that the illusion can be for good or bad. Like when only full “freedoms” are available when you are of a particular group. That’s when things become weird because a particular group can’t even practice the full fledged illusion unless permitted to do so by the “in” members – think women suffrage, civil rights, lgbt rights. But I wanna bring the conversation back to the illusion. You should read an author by the name of Jean Baudrillard. It’s a little boring and at times mind numbing, but once you put the right lock in the key hole, the lid on your brain comes off.

  3. On so many levels, we are not free. Most of us live with the illusion of freedom and we accept it as the genuine article. But what would complete freedom look like? Is the illusion a completely bad thing? Could we function as a civil society without constraints imposed on our freedoms? Our shared cultural mores and historical mythologies are all a part of the system that’s in place to order our daily activity.

  4. we are controlled by society, yet we, as collective, are the ones who create the society – every single one of us, even those who feel trapped by the boundaries we have placed upon ourselves… (just something I picked up when I studied philosophy…)
